The William "Stretch" Riedel Story

THE ALTERNATIVE SURF CULTURE

William Riedel, the founder of Stretch surfboards is an inspiration for our surfing culture. After a life threatening surf accident, near death, ending in a right hemiparesis, his courage and will, to continue his dream defeated all obstacles. His hability as a shaper and a unique way to think out of the box, developing new hydrodynamic theories, make him one of the best world class shapers. He believe in a spherical rocker which help to increase the sweet spot of the board and also the new age vertical surfing. The combination of EPS/Epoxy construction, Bamboo stringers and the benefit of rail channels separate him from others. As I mentioned in previous posts, we have the opportunity to chat with him in the San Diego Sacred Craft Expo and persieved his quality as a superb human being. Enjoy this video and enjoy the ride!

Thank you Pancho, what an excellent article. Having known him for 30+ years, I would have to agree with you that he is a superb human being and an inspiration. I also know that he had some tough personal obstacles during that event and never let anyone know.
